Only in 2008 Jan-Peter Rudloff described a new species of Brachypelma; B. kahlenbergi. Named after the German tarantula dealer Herwig Kahlenberg.

Brachypelma kahlenbergi is described from Veracruz Mexico. This Atlantic side of Mexico sees more rain then the Pacific coast. the eco region where Brachypelma kahlenbergi is found, is known as Veracruz moist forest.(www.worldwildlife.org)

The area gets 1100- 1600 mm of rain a year.

Brachypelma kahlenbergi found together with a frog (Engystomops pustulosus) in the same burrow.
